How to Obtain the DJI Smart Controller without Breaking the Bank

The DJI Smart Controller is one of those accessories I can't imagine flying without, and while I enjoyed flying with my Galaxy S20 5G or iPad, the burden of carrying an extra device was a bit annoying.

Flying the Phantom 4 Pro + gave me a first taste of what it was like to have a built-in monitor. I must say, the seamless process of transport, booting up, and flight with the remote control and drone is a much more enjoyable experience. It's absolutely brilliant.

I looked at all the major retailers and kept quoting prices between $750 and $829.

Fly More Combo Bundles

It was when I realized that if you take into account everything you get in the DJI Mavic Air Bundles, you see the greatest value.

The Smart Controller is also supported by DJI Mavic 2 Pro, DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, Mavic 2 Enterprise Series, Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 and DJI Mini 2.

Sell DJI Mavic Air 2 Fly More Combo

Theoretically, you could buy the DJI Mavic Air 2 Fly More Combo with DJI Smart Controller for $1399. Sell the aircraft, sell existing DJI Mini 2 controller and the bundle for $988 or $863.71 after eBay fees. Enjoy your Smart Controller for $535.29 after fees.

Sell DJI Air 2S Fly More Combo

Alternatively, you can buy the DJI Air 2S Fly More Combo with Smart Controller for $1749. Sell the aircraft, sell existing DJI Mini 2 controller and bundle for $1299 or $1135.68 after eBay fees. Keep the Smart Controller for $613.32 after fees.

Sell DJI Smart Controller

What if you already own the DJI Mini 2, want a second drone, and don't care about the smart controller? You could buy the DJI Mavic Air 2 Fly More Combo with Smart Controller for $1399 and sell the DJI Smart Controller for $750 or $655.57 after eBay fees. In the end, a second drone out of pocket for $743.43 after fees.

It's more work than buying the controller or drone outright but I think it's worth the extra work of selling the aircraft/combo on eBay or Amazon Marketplace.

Either way, it's also just a great value if you are looking to get into drones and want the Smart Controller.

Who Is the Smart Controller Made For?

Is this remote control suitable for everyone? At a current price of $749, it is definitely not the easiest purchase for everyone. It is worth remembering that it is a high-quality accessory that you do not need to have in order to be able to fly.

The same concerns arose when the Crystal Sky monitors came onto the market. These monitors are also a premium accessory and are usually purchased by more commercial or serious flyers.

This would include those working with drones for professional videography, photography, search and rescue, or those who often fly in adverse conditions such as extreme temperatures.

Simply put, this remote control is designed for fliers who want to simplify the workflow while increasing visibility and enjoyment. It comes at a price, but once you fly with integrated systems like this, it is honestly hard to return.
